Customer story: NCI Packaging

Overview

GMT’s award-winning project was the new purpose built facility for NCI Packaging. The privately owned Australasian business is a key supplier and product partner to many of the region’s leading aerosol, food and paint brands.

Goodman Solution

Located on a high-profile site within Savill Link Industry Park in Otahuhu, the 14,206 sqm development was specially designed to meet the customers manufacturing, storage and distribution requirements with adjoining office space for the businesses administration functions. The building presents a strong architectural form, conveying a sense of quality, functionality and innovation. It incorporates many sustainable design features and shares a consistent aesthetic with the other facilities within GMT’s Savill Link industrial estate.

The layout was optimised for NCI’s manufacturing
process, accommodating the specialist plant required for the molding, coating and labelling of cans used in the packaging of food, drink, milk powder and paint. The production process includes a coating oven and a dedicated hygiene hall to sterilise the products. It also features a significant amount of automated and robotic technology that easily allows the customer
to add capacity to meet demand.

Results

The new building has improved workspace efficiency, lifting productivity while enhancing the comfort and well-being of its occupants. Flexibility in the design, together with inbuilt redundancy in the electrical and plumbing systems, also ensures the building can be reconfigured for dual or even multiple occupancy in the future if required.

The purpose-built warehouse facility received an excellence award, in the industrial category, at the 2020 Property Council of New Zealand Awards.
